Postcard Paintings

In an effort to maintain precious relationships with friends who do not live nearby, I wanted to practice seeing past my daily life into the daily lives of those I care about.  Facebook and email have made it easy to keep light tabs on my friends from far away.  It is difficult, however, to soak in the entirety of what someone is going through without attempting to understand the real conditions in which they are functioning.  In a small attempt to see inside their worlds, I am composing a painting for each of my closest friends using imagery from their facebook, information from our conversations and my first-hand knowledge of the incredible personalities these people possess. I hope that the paintings will reflect my respect for their endeavors and empathy towards their everyday experiences.  I'll send each person their painting when it is complete.
